Puja security plan in Cooch Behar

 

COOCH BEHAR, Oct. 16: As several militant outfits are active in this region especially adjacent to Assam, Cooch Behar Police are not in a mood to take any chance during the festive days. Additional police forces brought in from outer districts will be deployed at different places to maintain peace. Plainclothesmen will also be deployed to keep eye on suspicious persons.

 

Senior police officials in Cooch Behar said they discussed the security issue with different puja committees. According to plan police personnel will be made available in case of necessity. There will be a number of police assistance camps adjacent to big puja pandals that are known as crowd pullers.

 

Keeping in mind the activities of militant outfits of northeastern region the security will be beefed up along the Assam-West Bengal border in Baxirhat of Tufanganj sub-division. RPF jawans would also be deployed to assist the armed police personnel, a senior police official said. The Border Security Force too being alerted to keep strict vigil along Indo-Bangladesh border so that no person can infiltrate in with ill motives.

 

During the puja days the traffic system in the towns will also be regulated so that pandal hoppers can move freely. The movement of motor vehicles will be controlled for the purpose, police sources said. Security may check any vehicle if appears suspicious. []
