IT Park in Cooch Behar demanded

 

COOCH BEHAR, Sept. 3: After the Centre's approval for setting up of a jute park in Cooch Behar the members of the business community became optimistic about an IT park here.

 

Faxing a memorandum to the state information technology minister Mr Debesh Das today, the Cooch Behar District Merchant Chamber of Commerce requested him to consider setting up an IT park in Cooch Behar.

 

The CDMCC general secretary Mr Rajendra Kumar Baid pointed out that Cooch Behar district is situated in a strategic position surrounded by Bangladesh, Bhutan, Assam and Dooars region. It is also the gateway of northeast India. The population of this district is about 25-lakh. Mr Baid said the number of educated youths is increasing every year. The air service between Cooch Behar and Kolkata is likely to resume this year. At present about forty industrial units are running at Chakchaka Industrial Growth Centre in Cooch Behar.

 

Arguing for the need for setting up of an IT park in Cooch Behar Mr Baid said a large number of unemployed educated youths may be provided with jobs once the IT park comes up. It will also act as a booster for development of industrial scenario in this district and surrounding area. He hoped that the state IT minister might take up the issue with the competent authority to make it translated into reality. []
