Threat call to forest official

COOCH BEHAR, July 2: Following seizure of a huge volume of timber and arrest of a miscreant a gang of forest plunderers threatened a senior forest official of dire consequences. They also threatened him over telephone to wind up his official bungalow with bombs.

Mr Subodh Kumar Baroi, assistant divisional forest officer, Cooch Behar social forestry division, said he received a ghost phone call last evening. The caller abused him with filthy languages and threatened him of dire consequences. The caller even threatened him of winding up his official residence with bombs. Mr Baroi reported the matter to the DFO (Social Forestry) Mr Apurba Sen and others concerned. A probe also initiated to identify and nab the caller, Mr Baroi said.

It may be mentioned here that acting on a tip-off a team of forest officials led by ADFO (SF) Mr Baroi and Beat Officer Md Mansur Ali had intercepted a vehicle at Dewanhat that was going towards Dinhata on yesterday morning. They seized sawn teakwood worth Rs 50,000 and arrested one Arsad Mian. Four others of the gang however managed to escape. The arrested man was produced in the court yesterday. Following that seizure and arrest the threat call came on the evening, believes Mr Baroi. []
