New drive against unauthorised parking
COOCH BEHAR, July 13: Aiming to offer smooth vehicular traffic by widening the streets and also to beautify the town Cooch Behar Municipality (CBM) is considering removing of all vehicles parked on different roads. The drive is likely to start within a week, municipality sources said. During the drive the vehicles parked illegally here and there will be shifted with cranes. CBM sources said there is a tendency among vehicle owners to park their vehicles beside the streets. The main thoroughfares turn into large parking lots during night.
During the removal-drive private cars, lorries, buses and all other types of automobiles will be removed from the streets. Sunity Road, Kesav Road (especially in front of Cooch Behar Palace), NN Road, Silver Jubilee Road and Biswa Singha Road will be cleaned of unauthorised parking on priority basis. Adjacent areas of Cooch Behar Stadium, MJN Stadium, MJN Hospital, Madan Mohan Thakurbari, Cooch Behar Court and some other places will also be cleaned of unauthorised parking. The drive will be conducted during the day and also in the night.
CBM sources mentioned that some areas in the town turned into unauthorised stands or stations of passenger vehicles like taxicabs and auto-rickshaws and also of lorries. This will not be allowed anymore. The CBM men will lift any vehicle found anywhere in the town if found parked illegally. At the first phase the drive may taste sour but ultimately the citizens will like it because it is necessary from the point of safety too, the CBM sources said. []
