Blast at Nishiganj, 5 injured 

COOCH BEHAR, June 27: During the 24-hour bandh called by Greater Kamta United Forum (GKUF) an explosion occurred at Nishiganj market in Cooch Behar at about 8-45 p.m. The incident took place when there was a massive load shedding. Five persons were injured in the blast and they were sent to Nishiganj Primary Health Centre immediately after the incident. On getting the information Cooch Behar SP Mr Anil Kumar, ADM (G) Mr Pannalal Mahapatra, Mathabhanga SDPO Mr Ananda Roy and other senior officials rushed to the spot. A senior police official said the blast was not a massive one.

 

It was learnt that the blast occurred in front of a roadside fruit shop at Nishiganj market. The injured were identified by locals as Raghunath Horh, Bishnu Biswas, Babu Barman, Bablu Karjee and Bazle Mian.

 

The nature of the blast and the reasons behind it are yet to be ascertained, Cooch Behar ADM (G) Mr Pannalal Mahapatra said this night. []
