Second girl wants reviewing her scripts

COOCH BEHAR, May 31: No classes were held in Sunity Academy in Cooch Behar today. The students of this prestigious girls’ school were found in a jubilant mood when they were coming out of the school soon after prayer and roll call. The day was like a festive one in this school that was founded by Maharani Sunity Devi in 1881. The mentionworthy success of Ushasi Bhaumik was the reason behind all this.

Ushasi secured the second position (794) in this year’s Madhyamik examination in this state. She got 168 in Bengali, 88 in English, 98 in Mathematics, 98 in Physical Science, 96 in Life Science, 88 in History, 95 in Geography and 97 in additional subject (Physical Education). Today, when she appeared at the school premises for collecting her mark-sheet, the joyous girls almost gheraoed her. The teachers blessed her when she offered pranam to them.

Though Ushasi stood second in entire state in the Madhyamik examination her father, Mr Dwijendralal Bhaumik said they are thinking of reviewing her answer scripts in English and History. The headmistress too suggested them to do so, he said. Ushashi said she got 98 marks in History in the test examination but got 88 marks only in the final examination. “It was unexpected and it made me upset to some extent”, she said. She hoped that after reviewing of the papers she may be able to secure some more marks and that may change her rank.

Mrs Bhupali Roy, headmistress of Sunity Academy, said 86 girls appeared in the Madhyamik examination from her school this year. Out of 73 first division scorers 53 candidates got star marks and eight were placed in second division. Seventeen candidates secured above 700 marks, she said. Mrs Roy said Arpita Pal secured third position (first among girls) in the Higher Secondary examination last year. Earlier, Tanushri Nath had secured first position and Smita Routh second position among girls in Higher Secondary examination in 2001. Tanushri Nath also got the eighth position in the Madhyamik examination in 1999. []
